Crystal Mountain Whiteout Weekend

Crystal Mountain in February is never boring. Two years ago I learned that again the hard way.

The morning started with classic Pacific Northwest weather: wet snow at the base, hard wind up high, and visibility that changed every ten minutes. We spent most of the first half of the day riding by feel instead of by sight. No hero laps, just smart choices, short lines, and a lot of face masks iced over.

By noon a small weather window opened and we finally got one top-to-bottom lap where the light flattened out just enough to see terrain changes. That run reminded me why I keep coming back to these trips. Even when conditions are rough, there is always a moment where everything clicks.

The best takeaway was pacing. Instead of chasing vertical all day, we took breaks, stayed warm, and picked our moments. It was not the flashiest mountain day I have had, but it was one of the most memorable.

Two years later, Crystal still feels like a place that rewards patience.
